How to clean an oven properly in Birmingham (and when to call a pro)

The oven is where most end of tenancy deposits are lost, and it is the job customers most often put off. Here is the method our cleaners use before we bring out the stronger products.
What you need
- A non-scratch scourer or old toothbrush
- Bicarbonate of soda
- White vinegar
- Washing-up liquid
- Rubber gloves and plenty of time
The overnight method
- Remove racks and soak in hot water with washing-up liquid
- Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water
- Spread it over the interior, avoiding the heating element and fan
- Leave overnight, then wipe away with a damp cloth
- Spray white vinegar on any remaining paste, which will foam off
The door and racks
- Soak racks in a bath or large tray for an hour, then scrub
- Clean between the door glass with a tool if the panel comes apart
- Wipe the seal gently so it does not tear
When a professional clean is worth it
- If the oven has not been cleaned in over a year
- If grease is baked onto the element or fan
